Geohot teases untethered jailbreak that 'will probably work on iPad' (video)

Is it April 1st already or does Geohot actually have something real to show? There's no way to be certain that what the self-promoting master of iPhone (and PS3) hacking is demoing is what he says:

"The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models(ipt2, 3gs, ipt3), and will probably work on iPad too."

Given his track record, we'll play along for now. The only thing we can say for sure is that the chosen music accompanying his iPod touch theatrics makes us want to break something, jailtime or not. See it go down after the break.

Mars “The Quest for Life”

Mars “The Quest for Life” is a Discovery Channel documentary focusing on the Phoenix lander. The lander touched down on Mars in 2008, with the dual purpose of searching for the presence of water as well as evidence of life. While this production doesn't examine the lander's mission in comprehensive detail, it provides an interesting overview of the massive effort invested by all involved.
And as long as humans have dreamed of Mars, they have dreamed of life on the red planet. One would hope that such a thing could not occur today, but the idea of life on Mars still fascinates us. In 2004 the Bush administration announced a space exploration initiative that would see a manned expedition to the planet by 2037. Most of the missions to Mars to date have focused on searching for life, or, more precisely, the building blocks of life, like water, oxygen, carbon and methane. It all sounds grandly optimistic, but to date over half of the missions to the planet have been failures, such as the Mars Polar Lander, which crash-landed into the planet or the European Space Agency's Beagle 2 lander with which all communication was lost.
This Discovery Channel show focuses on a group of NASA scientists working in conjunction with Lockheed Martin to build and place another lander on the harsh planet to once again search for signs of life. This time, the team responsible for the failed Polar-landing attempt works diligently on the Phoenix lander, designed to land on Mars then seeks out water.+
The show is successful at capturing the tension felt by each of the scientists involved in the project, but is missing in a lot of scientific detail on the planet itself. Still, for amateur astronomers and folks fascinated by space exploration, Mars: The Quest for Life offers an interesting look behind-the-scenes at the world of astrophysicists and engineers.
This brief Discovery Channel documentary on the effort that goes into putting a probe onto an extraterrestrial body will surely be intriguing to those who have even a passing interest in this subject, but this bare-bones, less-than-reference release, like most of the other recently released Discovery shows feels like it should have been bundled together with the other releases rather than being a stand-alone product. I'd say rent this if you really want to see it.

Windows 7 RTM begins rollout August 6th, OEMs and some beta testers to get early headstart... I GOT MINE!!!

So last we heard Windows 7 would be officially hitting RTM status some time this month, but as to when we'd be able to get our hands on it, turns out that's a very tricky question. According to the official Windows blog, OEMs will be able to get it approximately two days after the OS goes RTM, and beta testers who are already subscribed to TechNet can download RTM shortly after it happens for free. Independent software and hardware vendors can download via Microsoft Connect / MSDN on August 6th. Same goes for MSDN-subscribed developers and IT Professionals with a TechNet account, but only the English language version. Microsoft Partner Program Gold / Certified members can join the fun August 16th via Microsoft Partner Network portal on the 16th, and Action Pack Subscribers on August 23rd -- both also English only. All other language versions for those groups are due out by October 1st.

Finally, if you don't happen to fall in any of those categories, Microsoft is happy to remind you that Release Candidate doesn't start giving the annoying reboots until March 1st, 2010, with full expiration happening June 1st -- plenty of time to avoid picking up a copy if you didn't get a chance to pre-order at the much more reasonable discount price.

Apple confirms and expresses sadness over death of Chinese iPhone prototype handler...

Reports have circulated the internet that a 25-year old worker at Chinese manufacturer Foxconn, which produces all the iPhone models for Apple, committed suicide last week following revelation that a fourth-generation iPhone prototype, one of the 16 iPhones he was responsible for, had gone missing. Some stories circulating have described illegal searches of the man's apartment and interrogation involving physical abuse by other Foxconn employees. While not confirming the case being a suicide or the cause being the disappearing device, a spokesperson for the Cupertino-based company did release a statement corroborating the news of his death, saying that it is "saddened by the tragic loss of this young employee, and we are awaiting results of the investigations into his death. We require our suppliers to treat all workers with dignity and respect." The status of the missing iPhone prototype, which may or may not have been one that earlier this month found itself on eBay given the timeframe (although a 3GS model and not "fourth generation") remains unknown. Our hearts go out to all involved.

I can't say I'm proud of my life, but I can say I'm proud that I've learned. I've learned that I can't rely on everyone, but I can't expect everyone to hurt me. I know some things don't work out, but I know everything that has been for the better. I can't guarantee I'll be able to walk around with a smile. but I know where I've been, and where I'm going. I know who I am and who my friends are, I've had some tough stuff thrown at me. but I've gotten by. I'm not one to complain so I'll keep trying and in the end... I'll know I did my best.

Santo Domingo. – An expert in natural disasters criticized the Dominican authorities’ risk management strategy for in his words placing emergency response over prevention, just one day before the start of the 2009 hurricane season.

Juan Pablo Sarmiento, co-director of the Risk Disaster Reduction Program of the Latin American and Caribbean Center, said the risk management process not only implies a response to events, but also mitigation, and above all prevention.

He said there’s been great advance in preparedness and response, but there’s already more emphasis on mitigation and resilience, which in this case, is defined as the government’s capacity to absorb an impact and maintain active controls over it.

“In Latin America we still have the culture of feeling pride with the improvisation before natural phenomena,” as some countries assume that attitude when they tout their improvisation capacity.

In his conference titled “The hurricane season as a window of opportunity for risk reduction,” Sarmiento said once the preparation is planned for phenomena, such as a hurricane, risks would be reduced because it implies an early warning process to analyze winds, precipitation, volumes and other variables.

For this season, which began Monday and extends until November 30, the formation of 14 tropical storms has been predicted, of which up to seven could become hurricanes, and up to three may be category 3, 4 and 5, in the Saffir-Simpson scale.

There have been rumors floating around for some time about a netbook running an Android OS, and now it seems that an official product has a name and a price: Skytone's Alpha 680 for $250.

Beyond that Computerworld claims the Alpha 680 is smaller and lighter than ASUS netbooks and it will run a 533 MHz ARM11 processor. A full list of specs are already available on Skytone's website.

If all goes as planned, we should be seeing a product on store shelves sometime in the next 3 months or so—although there are no guarantees it will be on time and on price. [Boy Genius via Computerworld and Phandroid]

New iPod Shuffle!!!

I just nabbed one of Apple's new button-free iPod shuffles, and in case I'm wondering: yes, it's really small. I'm gonna play around a bit with the VoiceOver navigation and get you our full impressions in a few, but at first glance I think this is totally usable, especially for the shuffle's sweaty target demographic. Also: it's really small lol...

Setup: Unboxing wasn't the Apple's best, but it was easy enough to get at all three components in there: the shuffle, the earbuds and the USB adapter. Setup was similarly slightly more complicated than the regular iPod, since in addition to requiring an update to 8.1, it required an installation of VoiceOver (It all happens quite automatically with a couple clicks of automation, but it's an extra step all the same).

The actual formation of VoiceOvers for our tracks and playlists was easy enough that it was actually difficult to even spot iTunes working on it. Since our iTunes library is larger than 4GB, we built a few playlists, set them to sync with the shuffle, clicked sync and were ready to go in seconds. According to Apple, the space used up by the VoiceOvers on the shuffle is "negligible" and doesn't impact that vague "1000 songs" figure.

Usage: The controls are harder to use than a traditional shuffle button layout, and it depends on how you wear the shuffle as to whether the placement of the controls on the cord is better than having them on the player. That said, it's really not difficult at all to use even the most "advanced" features here (like playlist browsing) and Apple has essentially made the controls to train you to delve into that functionality.

With the newer iPods and iPhones people are already used to pausing and starting the music with a click, and double clicking for skipping forward isn't much of a stretch. A triple click to skip backwards seems like the silliest gesture here "and really", would it have been so hard for Apple to put a set of controls on the player? -- but it's not a deal breaker. The track identification and playlist features, however, both being unavailable on the original shuffle, would have required some learning any way you slice it, unless Apple were to add a button or two to the original layout -- something they're none too fond of doing.

Holding the button to hear the track name is simple and easy, and to go to the playlist mode, you just press and hold long enough to hear a beep. After that the shuffle just starts reading off names of playlists, you don't need to keep clicking to tab through them, and a single click sends you to one of the playlists. If you don't hear anything worth jumping to, you don't need to touch anything and the shuffle will return to the music you were playing. Both the song identification and playlist features speak over top of the song you're currently playing, which fades in and out accordingly.

Hardware: The player itself makes the old shuffles like almost giant in comparison. Its featureless face might be a bit odd if it weren't for the fact that your thumb covers the entirety of the player when you hold it. The shiny clip in back is impressively strong, and gravity should have a tough time knocking this off your workout clothes. Though suspiciously small, the off / shuffle / loop switch is easy enough to toggle with a fingernail.

Unfortunately, Apple's biggest mistake here might be with the one thing it didn't change: the earbuds themselves are terrible at staying in most ears, which just doesn't fly for a player that's primarily designed for workouts and those "on the go." It's also a needless hassle to buy an adapter cable to output songs to a stereo or a car -- Apple itself had a hacked cable to demonstrate the player to us with a sound system. Interestingly, you can plug a regular old pair of headphones into the player, turn it on, and it'll play music just fine -- you just don't have any playback controls. The stop / start button on existing Apple headphones does nothing.

Wrap-up: Still, people seem quite satisfied to put up with this sort of inconvenience and hassle when it comes to Apple, and with design, size and build quality like this, not to mention the welcome addition of VoiceOver, I imagine those third party accessory makers are going to like this new shuffle just fine.

We always thought the Sega Master System's stealth-black Light Phaser was cooler than our blaze orange NES Zapper, but we never thought it could actually mistaken for a real weapon... lol... It's pretty obviously plastic, after all. Yeah, we were wrong: a Brazilian man apparently held a 60-year old woman hostage at, uh, phaserpoint for 10 hours until surrendering to police. Next time? He's taking down a bank with a Super Scope.

“Batman The Dark Knight”

In some way, you can always tell when a ﬁlm is hotly anticipated when the cinema is crowded with anxious fan boys, dressed like they’re in a fancy dress party. The fact that a mid-sized cinema attracted four 11 Batmans, 6 Jokers, and a 5 Face, was somewhat indicative of the feverish expectation surrounding this ﬁlm. The cinema was absolutely at full capacity, it reminded me of when Star Wars: Episode 1 was released, which shows just how massive a franchise Batman has become.
Sadly, the ﬁrst eight minutes of the ﬁlm were ruined for me, because they’d been leaked on to the internet months before. This was a shame (though I’m the only one to blame), because the opening scenes are some of the best in the ﬁlm. Right from those opening scenes the Joker never fails to terrify. It was largely due to the quality of acting on display, but the sound track also had an important role. Every blow that Batman delivers seems to reverberate around the cinema, and every time the Joker cackles it sends a chill down your spine. During the most thrilling scenes, a high pitched whine slowly crescendos as the Joker sets about scaring the wits out of his victim, and the audience.
The Gotham City is so convincing, and so cohesive, that I could easily believe it to be a real place; a glass and concrete metropolis, drenched with darkness. Hopefully Dark Knight will set a precedent for all other Super-hero movies, in the same way that Lord of the Rings did for the fantasy genre. The technical components of the ﬁlm are also worthy of merit. The Batmobile itself, and its ensuing antics, set a new bar for what we call cool. As for the costumes, these have come on a long way too. The Batman suit is ﬁnally convincing, allowing Christian Bale to convey real menace through the rubber skin. And the initial photos of Ledger dressed as the Joker did much to stoke the frenzied interest in the ﬁlm, even when the release date was two years away.
As previously mentioned, the sound track is top notch, and so is the editing. What I’m getting towards is....this is a nigh on perfect ﬁlm. There is No getting away from it. It has arguably done more to popularize and intensify the legend of Batman than any other ﬁlm, graphic novel, or otherwise.
It’s no wonder the fan boys are so happy. If there is to be a third ﬁlm, which I’m sure there will be, then the whole cinema will be full of raving fans, in Batman and Joker suits. This is part of Ledger’s legacy, which may seem weird at ﬁrst, but for an actor to imbue a role with so much intensity and life must surely be testament to his professionalism, talent and dedication. This movie is a masterpiece and I would love to see Ledger win an Oscar, He certainly deserves it even thought he passed away.

Entre los principales personajes que se dieron cita la noche del 27 de febrero, se encontraban Matías Ramón Mella, quien fue el autor del «Trabucazo de Independencia»; también se encontraban entre otros Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, Manuel Jiménez, Vicente Celestino Duarte, los puellos José Joaquín, Gabino y Eusebio, Eduardo Abreu, Juan Alejandro Acosta, Remigio del Castillo, los hermanos de la Concha, Jacinto y Tomás, Cayetano Rodríguez y Félix María del Monte.

DO NOT LEAN ON DOORS!!!

Siempre me he preguntado en porque el sign que dice DO NOT LEAN ON DOORS en los trenes de NYC!!!

Entre una de las cosas que más me llamo la atención cuando me monte por primera vez en un tren fue el sign que dice DO NOT LEAN ON DOORS. En realidad no se cual es el motivo, quizás es que está prohibido recostarse de ellas por temor a que se abran o que quizás fueron puestas por equivocación como ley hace un rato otro blog…. Bueno en realidad no se… Pero solo sé que desde que vi lo que paso ayer por la mañana JAMAS ni NUNCA me recostare a las puertas del tren.

Eso fue alrededor de las 7:40, cuando iba en el tren A de camino al college, entrando el tren ya a la parada de la 190st, alguien tiro un grito, cuando de repente el tren frena estrepitosamente, to’ el mundo pal suelo, mochilas, bultos y las cartelas de mujeres rodando por el suelo... Y todo el mundo preguntándose que paso? Después de unos minutos comienzan a llegar los bomberos y la policía, luego alguien del crew de la MTA abrió las puertas y salió todo el mundo. De repente veo que todos los policías y los bomberos estaban alejando a las personas de la plataforma. Yo dominicano al fin de curioso decidí dar la vuelta por el otro lado de la plataforma para ver qué es lo que pasa. Y veo que es alguien que se había caído a las vías desde el tren al cual no sé cómo diablos se le abrió una puerta. A mí y a un gringo que estábamos en la hay tomando fotos nos quitaron los celulares por las fotos que habíamos tomados, no sé porque no los quitaron pero logre recuperar el cell con las fotos las cuales no se guardaron en el memory stick, solo le dije a uno de los policias que se podía quedar con la memory stick que es donde estaban las fotos guardadas ya que me tenía que ir porque tenía que llegar a clases ya que tenía un examen.

Un poquito acerca de mi:

Mi nombre es José Alberto Angeles Veloz, Dominicano, Serie 47 (La Vega), resido en el Hospital Mental más grande del mundo (New York), ex-estudiante de la UASD (CURSA), pero actualmente estoy estudiando Networking en el TCI College.

Soy una persona muy optimista, siempre me gusta sacar lo mejor de mí, no me conformo con hacer el intento, siempre doy el todo por el todo. Soy de esas personas que no tiene miedo de mostrar mis sentimientos, ya que no me gusta quedarme con la duda de "Si lo hubiese dicho" o "Si lo hubiese hecho"... No me gustan las dudas.... Tengo una mente muy abierta, siempre me gusta relacionarme con personas sinceras ya que ese es mi mayor defecto, soy demasiado sincero.

Soy seguidor de Los Angeles Lakers, me encanta la musica pero principalmente la musica de Ricardo Arjona, Justin Timberlake y Juan Luis Guerra. Fiel seguidor de los torrents de AXXO.... y uno de los mayores Downloaders de Demonoid... lol...

Bueno ese soy yo, lastima para muchos que mi actitud no esta sujeta a cambios... lol...
